SAN DIEGO - The Colorado Rockies got another unexpected outing from a starting pitcher who had been relegated to the bullpen. Franklin Morales followed a good start by Jorge De La Rosa with one of his own, helping the Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 Thursday. Colorado used Wilin Rosarios tiebreaking groundout in a three-run seventh to overcome Ian Kennedy, who pitched a one-hit shutout through the sixth. Morales (1-1) allowed one run and four hits in six innings with five strikeouts and a walk. Morales made his second career start against the Padres — and first since allowing one hit in six shutout innings at San Diego on Sept. 21, 2007. "That was crucial for him to get through the sixth," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "He stepped up. Its tough to go back and forth between the pen and starting." Injuries to Tyler Chatwood and Brett Anderson, have forced the Rockies to start Morales and De La Rosa, who both were sent to the bullpen earlier after ineffective starts. De La Rosa was the loser in Wednesday nights 4-2 defeat, but threw well; he allowed three runs — two earned — and seven hits in six innings. "I have a job to do," Morales said. "I dont worry about where I pitch. I just want to do whatever I can to help my team win." Morales allowed a solo homer to Xavier Nady leading off the fourth, a drive off the facing of the second deck in left field. That stood until the seventh. Corey Dickerson reached on a one-out double, Troy Tulowitzki walked and Justin Morneau lined a ball to right field. Chris Denorfia broke in, then retreated as the ball went his head for an RBI double. "Morneau hit that ball pretty hard and they got a couple guys on," Kennedy said. "I was trying to get a double play in that situation." Rosario grounded out to shortstop as Tulowitzki scored for a 2-1 lead, and Nolan Arenado followed with a run-scoring single. "Kennedy was tough, pounding the ball down, hitting the corners," Morneau said. "But when he made mistakes, we took advantage, and we had some good at-bats in the seventh." LaTroy Hawkins pitched the ninth to remain perfect in four save chances, finishing just the fourth win for the Rockies in 11 road games this season. Kennedy retired his first 12 batters before walking Tulowitzki leading off the fifth. He didnt allow a hit until Arenados leadoff double in the sixth. "Its tough. I threw well for the first six innings," Kennedy said. "I felt like I was executing my pitches. I was getting ahead of guys and when I didnt start off with strike one I felt like I was getting back to even in the count and it was just nice to execute like that." The Colts are cemented as the fourth seed and will play the loser of the Bengals-Steelers game at Indianapolis on wild-card weekend, either Jan. 3 or Jan. 4.A hot finish right before the playoffs would be the simplest way to turn the Colts in the right direction. For us, this game means everything, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton said. We get another chance to sweep the division and we want to go into the playoffs hot and that starts Sunday. If the Colts can defeat Tennessee, the dominoes will fall on career and franchise achievements. The Colts last division loss was at Houston in Week 15 of the 2012 season. Indianapolis is currently on a 12-game winning streak against division opponents. The Colts won a consecutive division title this season for the first time since 2009-10; their longest division title streak is five (2003-07). They have won nine AFC South title since the divisions inception in 2002, but with a victory Sunday, it would be the first time in franchise history Indianapolis went 6-0 in back-to-back seasons within the division.Coach Chuck Pagano can also join Jim Harbaugh as the only coach to win 11 or more games in each of his first three seasons. Pagano missed a chunk of 2012 while battling leukemia, and interim head coach Bruce Arians helped get the Colts into the playoffs. Pagano gets credit for those victories and has a 33-17 record (including playoffs) at the helm in Indy.Since a Week 15 win over the Texans, Andrew Luck has been spotty, throwing three interceptions and only two touchdowns. LLuck has thrown for 300 or more yards in 10 games this season, but passed for just 109 last Sunday against Dallas.ddddddddddddThe Colts were held to a season-low 229 total yards in a 42-7 thumping. Indianapolis had 1 yard rushing on 10 attempts, while the defence allowed Dallas to rush for 127 yards and pass for 250.Losing the way we did last week, guys take this personally, defensive back Greg Toler said. We just feel like we can play better and will play better. This is definitely a week going into the playoffs that we can get that (momentum) rolling with the chemistry we had.Speaking of momentum, Tennessee has not had any since its last win in Week 6. The Titans are on a nine-game losing streak and using their third starting quarterback. The opponent is not to be overlooked, though, and Indianapolis is committed to corrective action. You have to go into it clicking on all cylinders, not forgetting about or sweeping (Dallas loss) under the rug, but just learning from our mistakes and knowing that we can play better, Toler said. (We need) this final game, knowing we can get it done going forward.Indianapolis opportunity to launch itself into the post-season coming off a big win is a primary concern. There might not be a player more prepared to make a difference than defensive tackle Arthur Jones.Jones spent much of this season with an ankle injury and battling an illness. The fifth-year veteran from Syracuse has returned to 100 per cent and will be ready Sunday. He has played in eight games this season, with 22 total tackles and 1 1-2 sacks.I would lie to you (if) I said this isnt a big game, Jones said. Everyone knows the importance of this week. After that, its a one-game season.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
