The NHL Play of the Year showdowns second round resumes today with two creative ways to shake a defender. Todays Round of 16 match-up features Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza taking on Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar. Spezza eliminates the defender that blocks his path to the net by simultaneously going around and right through him. Forced to the boards coming over the blue line, Spezza proceeds to victimize Florida Panthers defender Dylan Olsen. Dangling to the outside, Spezza gets Olsen to bite before bringing the puck right past him and drives the net. Bringing it back to his forehand, he roofs a shot over top of Scott Clemmensen for a tremendous individual effort. Spezza took just over 54 per cent from Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews to advance to the second round. Tatar eliminates his defenders by running them clean into one another. Streaking over the blue line, Tatar feels a pair of Dallas defenders closing in on him. As Brenden Dillon moves in for the big hit, Tatar hesitates and the Stars d-man catches teammate Cameron Gaunce square on, sending both players flying. Tatar resumes his drive and finishes with a nifty backhand shovel that goes off Kari Lehtonen and in. Tatar was outnumbered two-to-one in his opening round as he squared off against the Sedin twins. His skill was still good enough to take more than two-thirds of the vote. You can watch the highlights and make your decision here .
